Chelsea Bonbeach Train Station Group (CBTS) volunteers on a monthly basis to carry out works to revitalise the rail precincts of Chelsea and Bonbeach.
CBTS had a big win recently, having successfully campaigned for the installation of toilets at Chelsea Railway Station via its petition. Now in use for commuters following the navigation of bureaucratic red tape, the new amenities are proving popular.
According to president Vicki Jans, “the highlight [this year] is no doubt the installation of toilets at the Chelsea shopping precinct.”
The community group dedicate their time to gardening, improving amenities, and graffiti removal. CBTS hope to play a part in the transformation of the Bonbeach rail precinct, and continue to improve its aesthetics via the creation of green spaces and other initiatives.
The current timeline sees the removal of the Bonbeach level crossing take place in 2019, following the result of the contentious Environmental Effects Statement. It is understood that the LXRA will continue to consult with CBTS in regard to the planning and development of the project.
At the upcoming AGM, the group will present its Community Partner of the Year award to Council’s parks team, and if successful in their grant application, will be able to complete gardening works at the Chelsea Railway car park.
CBTS are seeking new members, and everyone is welcome to their AGM, that will be held at Longbeach Place, 15 Chelsea Road, Chelsea on Thursday 7th at 7pm.
